One of my best friends loves shoes, probabaly more than I do. The greatest thing about her love of shoes is that we are the same size. So, every pair of shoes she buys is a potential pair for myself! I don't borrow all of her shoes, but it is just so fun to try on the shoes she buys since I always know they are a perfect fit.
For her wedding, she did the most extensive search for shoes I've ever seen. She went to every major department store - Saks, Bloomingdales, Barneys, Neiman, Nordstrom, and every boutique she could - Jimmy Choo, Stuart Weitzman, Fendi, Prada, the list goes on. She searched online at all of the major shoe sellers and she searched through 2 seasons Spring and Fall just to find her designer wedding shoes.
Finally, she ended up with 3 pair of shoes to choose from - a pair of white strappy Jimmy Choos, a sexy pair of Chanel stilettos that were all silver and sparkly, and a pair of understated silver Manolos with gorgeous buckle strap at the ankle.
The day she got her dress, we all went over to her house to take a look at her dress and her shoes. The idea was to find the perfect combination of shoes and dress. She had purchased an A-line dress that was tight at the top and whose skirt gathered and folded at the bottom. A perfect princess dress. There was also a little ribbon that she could tie at her waist if she wanted. The dress was off-white and beautiful.
As she tried each shoe on, we looked at the effect that the shoe had on her outfit. The first pair, the white Jimmy Choos, ended up being a bit boring. Since her dress was all white and there wasn't any beading on the bodice or the skirt, the white pair of Jimmy Choos faded into the background and you didn't really see them. The silver Chanel shoes that were much flashier could be seen immediately, but they almost were too sexy, while her dress made her look more demure, pretty and innocent. Finally, she tried on the Manolo Blahniks and these shoes were perfect. They were the perfect princess shoes, 3 and a half inches high, a little silver buckle, and 2 straps at the ankle to show off her legs. We all yelled our approval as she modeled them in front of the mirror and she immediately knew that these would be her wedding day shoes.
Ladies, one tip that I found from this experience is to buy extra shoes and then try the shoes on with your dress. The shoes can all be returned and when you try the shoes on with your dress, only then can you see how they really look with the entire outfit. It is really hard to pick the shoes without the dress and certain shoes will really enhance the dress and make you look even more beautiful. Lots of women think the shoes don't matter, but the shoes are the final piece of the puzzle. They are what make your wedding day outfit complete. Don't overlook the designer wedding shoes.
By the way, here are her Manolos on that she wore on the big day.
