For all of those brides who have already purchased their wedding shoes or picked out the perfect one for them, “congratulations!” You are practically done. But, I am here to tell you a little story to remind you about one last thing – don’t forget your wedding flip flops.
Last week, I was in my cousin’s wedding. It started at 5 AM in the morning with us waking up for breakfast and to start hair and make-up. The ceremony was at 1:00 and then there were cocktails at 5 and a reception at 7 PM. In between, my cousin, the bride, was planning on taking pictures with the family and going to some different locations to take pictures with her new husband.

I was the bridesmaid nominated to go with her since I was also part of the family pictures. We went all over the place. Her wedding was in Laguna Beach so we went down to the beach to take more pictures. Then, we also walked all over the hotel property taking pictures. Finally, we gathered the family around to take even more pictures. This lasted a good 3 hours.
Before the cocktail reception started, I went back to the room with my cousin, the bride. She sat down and immediately took off her shoes. The look on her face was a look of sheer torture. Why? Because the straps of her shoes had cut into her feet. One of her toes were bleeding and there were welts on her feet. Ohmigosh! She never took my advice about breaking in her shoes or spending a little bit more on a pair of shoes. Instead, she had opted to purchase cheap wedding shoes which I did not recommend.
Then, she told me “I cannot wear those shoes again. If I have to go barefoot, then I will. I don’t care. They just hurt too much. I’ll never last the night.” Unfortunately, she had purchased platform wedding shoes that were really high. And, the only pair of sandals that we had for her were flat. We had to search all over and see if any of the other bridesmaids had brought some. Luckily, at the last minute, one of the bridesmaids came up with a pair of 2 inch flip flops that the bride could wear. The flip flops were black and didn’t match, but the bride didn’t care. Plus, the heel height was closer to the 4 inches of her platform shoes than the ones without a heel.
So, my advice to all of you brides out there? Break in your shoes and don’t forget your wedding flip flops. You will be on your feet all day. You will be taking pictures. You will be standing and posing. And, you do not want welts or blisters on your feet. Buy a pair of bridal flip flops so you won’t have to face the same problem as my cousin, the bride. Plus, the last minute scrambling by the bridesmaids really caused some panic. Finally, get a pair that’s ivory or white or a cute pink or blue or something to match your wedding colors. Don’t wait until the last minute and end up with a pair that aren’t high enough and are in a color that completely clashes with your dress.

Jim Hjelm is one of my favorite wedding dress designers. Somehow, his dresses look so fantastic on everyone. I love all of the little details of the dresses he makes, from the rhinestones to the ruffles to the bow that he adds. Everything that he puts on the dress is there to make a girl look even more fantastic.
Below are 2 of my favorite ball gown dresses from this season. The first one has these gorgeous folded silk organza ruffles flowing down and little rhinestones that decorate the bustline.
The second one has an asymmetrical ruffle skirt and beautiful embroidery on the bust. The sweetheart neckline is really flattering while the beautiful sash in the middle helps to accentuate your waist.
Kimberly, who is getting married this October recently wrote in to ask me what wedding shoes she should pair with the first dress. Specifically, she was looking for white wedding shoes. So, I decided to post it here and give her some suggestions.
First, both of these dresses have big flowy ball gowns which probably means they will be a little bit heavier. One thing I suggested was to make sure any heel that she buys is sturdy since she will have to manage the gown.
Next, my thought was to get something simple since the dress itself is already really detailed and elaborate. You don’t want your white wedding shoes getting in the way of your wedding dress. Instead, you want the shoes to compliment the dress. My thought would be that the shoes would not need many rhinestones or bows on it and should be simple and elegant. Finally, I asked our stylist Tina to look at the dress and come up with a few ideas. Her thought was to go with a shoe such as the Badgley Mischka Carlo with the gorgeous bow on the side. The bow doesn’t detract from the dress, but rather compliments the dress.
The other suggestion was rsvp Vicky shoes. These are simple, elegant, and also have a little bow. Finally, she suggested the Cole Haan Ceci Air Open Toe Pumps for extra comfort with the Nike air padding. These shoes are simple, yet they are still really pretty with the open toe and high heel. Summer is here and it is the perfect time to shop for a pair of beach wedding shoes. Everywhere I look, I see these gorgeous sandals in the stores. Here are the different things you should think about before selecting your perfect beach wedding shoes.
1.First, think about if you want them to be flats or have a bit of a wedge heel. For the beach, you definitely do not want a regular heel. The heel will sink into the sand and it may catch while you’re walking. You want to make sure that you get shoes that have a flat bottom. Either regular flats or wedges will work since wedges come with a high heel, but a flatter bottom. This choice is up to you, but remember, flats will be more comfortable and wedges will be harder to balance, but will allow you to look taller.
2.Next, think about what color you want. Do you want a pair of white beach bridal shoes or do you want a different color? It might be fun to wear a pair of yellow or blue beach shoes underneath your dress. You are already doing something different by having a beach wedding so why not change it up and change the color of your shoes as well?
3.The next thing to think about is whether or not you want to buy a pair with rhinestones. There are a ton of gorgeous rhinestone sandals in stores this season. The rhinestones usually sit on the straps and they help to brighten up your outfit. Plus, later on, you’ll be able to wear the shoes later in order to glam up your bikini. So, consider whether or not you want a pair with rhinestones and then think about what type of rhinestones you want. I’ve seen a lot this season with big rhinestones that are really flattering.
4.Finally, think about whether or not you want regular shoes or you just want to go with a pair of flip flops. Wedding flip flops can be a great option for those that want to retain the casual look and easily walk across the sand. Plus, you are on the beach and you can set the tone for your guests since they will then be encouraged to wear flip flops as well.
