I asked a ton of brides what wedding shoes they chose and compared the choices to their dress style and you know what happened? I found out that it didn’t matter! Everyone chose what they were comfortable in and even the biggest shoe lovers chose different things.  I learned that the bridal shoe really depends on your personal style preferences. If you must know what was the most popular, I’ve written it down below. Use this as a guide, but not an absolute must.  Don’t forget, these are only what were the most popular, not what will work best for you.

 1) A-line: For one of the most popular style dresses, the A-line, most brides chose open-toe strappy sandals. The strappy sandals tend to be more understated and appear lighter.  They don't weigh the bride down so they help to balance out the wider hem at the bottom.  Another popular choice was the closed-toe pointed heel or D'Orsay style shoe.   These appeared more elegant and stable.

 2) Princess or ball gown: The same open-toe strappy sandal won out here, although the closed-toe pointy heel was a close second since it’s Cinderella style shoe fits the princess ball gown dress. Also, if you don’t want a strappy sandal, consider a peep-toe heel.  Either way, make sure your shoes are sturdy since the princess dress tends to be heavier.

 3) Mermaid: Most brides opted for the closed-toe pointy heel to balance out the poufy bottom of the mermaid dress. However, others went for the open-toe strappy heels yet again.  Also, most brides chose a higher heel so they could appear taller.  They felt this was necessary since the mermaid dress is such a hip hugger.

 4) Sheath: Although brides chose the strappy sandal here again, they looked for ones that were simpler with less embellishments. The long, leanness of the sheath dress causes the eye to look from top to bottom.  Therefore, the simpleness of the strappy sandals helped to make the lines look cleaner and leaner.  Finally, some opted for the rounded closed-toe for a more formal look.  With the rounded closed-toe shoe, most chose a more feminine looking shoe with a thinner heel.

 5) Empire: To look longer and leaner in this dress, many brides chose a higher open-toe platform heel here.  The empire waisted dress was great for covering up the tummy, but all of the brides felt like they needed to appear taller so the dress flowed better. The other option to balance out the dress was the closed-toe pointed heel although still with a pretty high heel.  Finally, kitten heels or slides worked well since they matched with the fairytale look of the dress.

Here are a few shoes that everyone loved and felt matched all of the different dress styles:
